Alternate Finance Source

According to several recent survey’s one of the biggest challenges facing small businesses is access to capital. Since the global financial meltdown and the worst recession since the great depression most banks have develop very stringent requirement concerning small business financing. Some small businesses have seen there credit lines frozen. This action causes small businesses cash flow and inventory problems. A record number has had to close their doors. Therefore many are looking for alternate financing sources.

One of the alternate financing sources picking up momentum is merchant cash advances especially for retailers, restaurants and service providers that are consumer driven and accept credit card. Basically it works like this a merchant cash advance provides a cash advance using future credit card receivables as collateral. The provider normal review past credit card processing statements based on information the typically advances one to two month’s of receivables which helps the small business owner acquire much needed capital.

The downside to this type of alternate finances the fee’s can be very high. It is not a loan so rates and fees are not regulated like traditional financing. They buy future credit card receivables at a discount. The term is six to twelve month’s and is collected as a percentage of credit card sales. The goal is to get the business in and out as soon as possible.

This type of alternate financing can possible is good if a business cannot acquire other financing and can maintain a decent profit margin. I believe businesses should review all option and then utilize resources that minimize risk while maximize return on investment (ROI.

Urban Economic Development Plan

Permit me this opportunity to introduce you to a unique idea. I feel very strongly that now is the time for serious young leaders and executives of Birmingham to rise to the occasion of this economic down turn in America and internationally in order to seize opportunities for the development of economic programs for the rebuilding of Birmingham-Hoover MSA.

During this global economic down turn we can come together as a cohesive leadership group and develop focus economic plans of '' community development'' in a planned forum of building the city of Birmingham and the surrounding areas by focusing on recruiting and developing strategic innovative emerging small and medium-sized companies which will propel our metro area into one of the greatest high tech, energy, financial service and biotech centers.

I am recommending the creation and the development of a Young Executive Group an Economic Development and leadership organization comprised of local serious young leaders and executives serving as '' PIED PIPERS'' of Birmingham leading the metro area into '' CHANGE 2010 '' A time for a new and innovative business model of upgrading citizens skills and training and attracting the best and brightest skilled and unskilled workers and professionals to Birmingham to participate in '' CHANGE 2010-- A new improved business movement .

I am recommending the following....

1. Formulate/ create an economic task force for the development of the Birmingham-Hoover metro small and medium-sized business economic plan.
2. Create the leadership and economic development organization with a board of advisors.
3.Seek out 3 pied pipers to lead the organization.
4.Attract foreign corporate CEO’s to visit Birmingham for economic discussions.
5.Contact a University for their participation as A center for Birmingham economic development tied into their business and economics department.
6.Visit nations such as Japan, Korea, China, Brazil, Panama, India.
7. Build high tech manufacturing centers along the I 20 corridors running from Birmingham to Bessemer.
8. Attract capital for the areas businesses.
9.Build technology centers for energy development, wind technology, alternative fuel, Etc.
